Here it is, now I want to see the film again!
I just had to reblog this. The brilliant stunt by Ikea shows the power of social media and how it can influence the ways in which brands think and interact with their consumers. Exciting future for advertising and PR/
After finding thousands of people on Facebook had joined a group called “I Wanna Have A Sleepover In Ikea“ the good people at IKEA UK thought - “Why not?”
So here we are.
Heineken have shown their responsible side with the new digital ad they have released in time for the festive period. The ad features a man enjoying a few drinks at the start of the night but then makes the sensible switch to water. In idealistic fashion the hero enjoys the rest of the night partying until dawn, surpassing those heavier drinkers who passed out long before. The ad is a good idea, I am pleased a beer company have decided to show more social responsibility. But like with most of these things, I feel its unlikely to make much of a difference.
Whilst I am talking about Christmas ads, I might as well mention the new M&S one. I was at first a bit dubious when I first heard M&S were going to join with the X Factor contestants for their Christmas ad this year. However I have to say I think they pulled it off. Song choice is brilliant; festive with a sense of excitement that goes hand in hand with the story-lines. Most of all it is beautifully and subtly shot. It is certainly a good ad to contend with the likes of John Lewis. In fact it seems they were heavily influenced by the John Lewis ads. Interesting.
What a brilliant idea. Manchester United has unveiled its plan to create a social network for its fans, which is estimated to number at 500 million fans. The amount of football chat that flies around the likes of Facebook and Twitter might now be centered on certain relevant sites. Phew! This also means good news for advertisers…A whole social network made up of members with the same interest, think of the possibilities!
You can’t help but notice the buzz around Super Bowl. Tweets and facebook updates after tweets and facebook updates in excited preparation for the big match. I myself do not have a clue about the Super Bowl neither do I want to. But the ads…well, the ads are a pretty big deal I have come to realise. There was much press attention about the Honda ad in the run up to its big release and now I have seen it I can see why. I love it! What a throw back. Ferris Bueller is one of the biggest cult films of all time and this ad reminds us why. Rarely do I see a car ad that stirs any emotion in me, this one therefore is very successful!
Firstly, its my birthday on Saturday. Going out is all well and good but I hate dealing with the hangovers. They ruin my weekend. I thought I would mention this because it made me think of the Heineken ad I recently posted about. I am going to try and remember to follow the ad’s hero and switch to water at 1… We’ll see how that goes. Secondly, on Monday I am starting two weeks work experience with Adam&Eve. I am ridiculously excited about meeting and learning from the agency that has produced some brilliant ads in recent months. Still reeling from the John Lewis christmas advertising treat.
Ooooo I am getting excited about seeing the new John Lewis Christmas ad. There has been a lot of controversy over their choice of song. Personally I am a huge fan of The Smiths so I am excited to see how it works with the ad. Adam and Eve and John Lewis have always been on point with their song choice, I have no doubt they have done it again. Ad debuts online on Friday, on TV on Saturday.
